• Collarbone protection and visor release: a raised area designed with padding effectively reduces forces transmitted to the collarbone, while a patented visor release system ensures it detaches with the right amount of predefined force, regardless of impact angle.
• Revised lower shell: the lower shell volume in M, L, XL, and 2XL sizes has been increased by approximately 3% to facilitate helmet donning and removal; this increased volume has also improved impact management, now 44% below the normal speed threshold.
• ECE 22.06 approval: for the new ECE 22.06 standard, the SM5 achieves a normal-speed impact rating 44% better compared to the current 33%, in addition to a linear impact score 32% better at low speed and 31% better at high speed than the current standard.
• Multi-density inner liner: ensures the correct density in each area to enhance impact absorption.
• Redesigned chin bar profile: the base area has been specifically sculpted to create a raised relief section that clears the collarbone, with a new, softer EPS liner extending beyond the helmet shell itself and covered with a more flexible rubber compound, reducing the likelihood of collarbone injury.
• Ventilation system: maximizes airflow and provides a high level of heat exchange thanks to multiple intake vents and exhaust ports.
• Optimized weight: the ECE version of the SM5 helmet weighs 1,350 grams in medium size, and 1,420 grams in the ECE DOT version with visor.
• Visor design: developed to direct air toward the ports and improve airflow.
• Available versions: the SM5 is available in 2 versions: ECE R 22.06 and ECE R 22.06/DOT.
• The internal and external surfaces are designed to minimize the effects of oblique impacts. To help combat and mitigate these rotational impact forces, Alpinestars has developed a proprietary technology by creating a low-friction surface on the inner face of the EPS liner. For the ECE 22.06 standard, which now includes rotational oblique impact rating, the SM5 is 70% below the new regulation.
• The patented visor release system ensures the visor releases with the correct predetermined force, regardless of impact angle.
• The lightweight outer shell is constructed from a technologically advanced impact-resistant thermoplastic in three anatomical shell sizes, plus three individual EPS inner liner sizes combined with cheek pad and interior liner combinations to offer 6 unique sizes and ensure the best fit and protection.
